The 223-kilometer track between Seraing and Cambrai is considered one of the toughest stages of the race. A total of 7 cobblestone sectors passed the stage, which is known for its paving stones.
Martin finished the race at the end of a mile and Martin managed to make a difference of 3 seconds for the bicycle left behind.
John Degenkolb of Giant Alpecin was second and Peter Sagan of Tinkoff Saxo was the third.
The 5th cycle of the French bicycle tour will be run between Arras and Amiens. The stage is 189.5 kilometers long.
