Argentina’s Juan Martin del Potro and Madison Keys in the final round of the grand slam tournament of the Ten Seasons in the US Open, came to the semifinals.
On the tenth day of the tournament held in New York, USA, the No. 3 seeded Swiss Roger Federer and No. 24 seeded Argentinean Juan Martin del Potro came face to face.
Del Potro, aged 28, struggled against Austrian Dominic Thiem in the fourth round of the tournament, 3-2, despite falling 2-0, Federer 7-5, 3-6, 7-6 and 6-4, defeated them 3-1 on the set.
His career was the only grand slam victory of 2009 Argentinean tennis player who lived in the US Open, world number one in the semifinals paired with Spanish name Rafael Nadal.
In single women, number 15 seed Madison Keys defeated Estonia’s Kaia Kanepi with a 6-0 set 2-0. Keys of 22, Venus Williams, Sloane Stephens and CoCo Vandeweghe were the fourth American to win a semi-final ticket.
For the first time since Wimbledon in 1981 on the tour and grand slams in 1985, all the athletes in the semifinal consisted of American tennis players.
Meanwhile, after Coco Wandeweghe defeated No. 1 seed Karolina Pliskova 2-0 in single women, Spanish Garbine Muguruza, who won Wimbledon this year, will take the first place in the WTA rankings to be announced on Monday.
